Join Abio Cares at Alameda County Food Bank on Sept. 25

Please join Abio Cares on Sept. 25 between 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Alameda County Community Food Bank as we give back to the community we all love.

With one in five of our neighbors lacking food basics, we support the Alameda County Community Food Bank’s (ACCBF) mission to fight hunger locally -- from Berkeley to Fremont, from Oakland to Livermore.

In just three easy hours on Sept. 25, we will help sort and package food headed to 200 food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, school meal programs and other community organizations. The ACCFB creates nearly 600,000 meals worth of food every week!

Why does Abio care? To keep up with demand, the food bank needs 75 volunteers per shift. The biggest need is for weekday help, so we want to do our part. No one should worry about where his or her next meal will come from.

The Abio Cares team includes Abio Properties agent Sarka Sarkisian, who said this will be her second volunteer trip to the ACCFB warehouse. “It’s such a great way to work with the community and work with my team members at the same time!” Sarka said.

RSVP to this event through our Facebook page. The warehouse is located at 7900 Edgewater Dr., Oakland.

5 More Great Reasons to Join Abio on Sept. 25:

  1. About 232,040 Alameda County residents are “food insecure” and lack consistent access to enough food to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle, according to Feeding America.
  2. It costs $81,621 a year for a family of four to meet its basic needs in the Oakland metro area. Yet 65 percent of the ACCFB’s clients earn less than $28,290, according to the food bank.
  3. Two-thirds of the food bank’s clients are children and seniors.
  4. Food is medicine, and hunger contributes to chronic diseases. About 20 percent of ACCFB clients’ households include at least one member with diabetes. And 39 percent have a member with high blood pressure, according to the food bank.
  5. When you give your time, you use your power to make a difference in the lives of people who need help the most.

If you can’t join Abio Cares on Sept. 25, consider volunteering another day on your own. Find information about volunteer opportunities at ACCFB here.
