About Abio

Our Story
Abio [Ah-bee-ohh] born from the desire to make one of life’s most significant experiences a more open and positive one for everyone involved. We started by changing the underlying culture in which we work. Abio agents and staff are here because they genuinely believe that real estate agency should be collaborative and straightforward. No confusing jargon. No high-pressure sales tactics. No clichés.

Our approach is anchored in open, honest interactions with our colleagues and our clients. We believe this business is about relationships, not transactions. It’s about you. It’s about home. It’s about community. It’s about time. Come on in. We’re open.

I was born and raised in Oakland and went to Berkeley High. I got into Real Estate to help my mother with her first home purchase, and I stayed in it because I want to help others the same way. This is the biggest purchase of their life and I want to be there to help make it as easy as possible! Before I got involved in real estate, I was in new home construction. Knowing the right way versus the wrong way to construct a home is so valuable when working with any buyer, new or experienced. Especially when your new home is built on a hill. I’ve actually created an area of expertise in high-end hillside construction. This is a good example of my belief in creating value in any situation, whether it’s at work or at home. I live to make life better for everyone, and I want to pass on what I know and learn in ways that will help others in the process. That includes family, friends, clients, and associates. When I’m not involved in real estate, I love traveling all over the world, helping others and exploring local areas. It gives me perspective on life and work, and helps me recharge my batteries. The same goes for helping good causes and those in need. I work closely with the Deaf and Blind community. There is so much we do everyday that we take for granted but is challenging for so many others. I help those communities raise funds and awareness so they can live life more inclusively and less marginalized in our society.

My career in real estate was born out of a dissatisfaction with the practice of law. I realized I had a stronger passion for helping people in real estate transactions than in court. But I still consider myself a “recovering” attorney. I still put that legal background to work for my clients and my agents when I need to. It’s a value add you can’t find with brokers who don’t have that to offer. It’s been helpful for clients in both traditional transactions and those that can be described as, shall we say, more unique. Combine my legal knowledge with my experience as a broker, investor and property manager, and you have someone who can help clients in virtually any type of real estate need or situation. Every day, I put that experience to work to make sure I’m doing the best work I can for everyone I work with and everyone who works with me – even if it means sometimes advising clients to go against what may seem like the common wisdom. I co-founded Abio Properties because I believe that the traditional real estate brokerage model could be better. A more open and collaborative approach to real estate creates a more satisfying client and agent relationships and more successful transactions for everyone involved. People who work with me are going to get the truth and someone who will work hard to get the best possible outcome. What do I do when I’m not in business mode? You can probably catch me in the front few rows of a concert, watching an independent film, getting creative in the kitchen, or behind a camera. I love this area and still find something new to appreciate about it every day. I am a mother, a wife, a REALTOR, and a person who thrives on helping others. I have lived in four different countries throughout my childhood until before my family settled down in Southern California. I headed North to Berkeley to attend college, and found myself more at home in the Bay Area than in any other place in the world. Prior to real estate, I worked in advertising and marketing at companies like Foote Cone and Belding, Time Warner, and Travelocity and in client services for a number of startups. In 2011, following the birth of my daughter, I joined my husband Cameron at his boutique real estate brokerage to run marketing and operations. Two years later I obtained my license and began selling real estate full-time. When I am not helping clients, I enjoy traveling – or armchair traveling by watching Anthony Bourdain shows and the like. I adore cooking and sharing meals with friends and family. I mostly look forward to spending time with my family enjoying the best things in life that also happen to be free: fun, family and friends. Most people would describe me as enthusiastic, which is exactly how I feel about real estate. I love, love, love my career, talking about real estate and best of all helping clients either sell and/or find the right home. I am a Bay Area native. I grew up on the Peninsula and lived five years in San Francisco before moving to Berkeley in 2002. I love the culture and diversity that the East Bay brings, but who wouldn’t love our fantastic restaurants, outdoor recreational spaces and fantastic weather! Before my career in real estate, I worked for 10 years as a paralegal in a construction litigation law firm in San Francisco. I have also owned my own business and managed family-owned property remodels and sales. I’ve learned through my past work experience to address any issue as it comes up, and to take corrective action as soon as possible. I will always tell my clients the hard news, even if they do not want to hear it! I strive to be as upfront and available as needed during the escrow process. I know personally what it is like to wait by the phone to hear if your offer has been accepted and I do not lose sight that it is the client who is either buying or selling, not me. I work hard to alleviate stress whenever possible for clients and try making each step of the process as clear and stress-free as possible. On my off time, I enjoy spending time with my family, knitting, bicycling, and hiking and enjoy volunteering to support my son’s school. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, and was awarded a Fulbright Hayes for intensive Swahili study in Tanzania and Zanzibar. I am a Member of the National, California and Berkeley Association of Realtors.

I am a California native and have lived in the East Bay for over 17 years. This is where my heart is. This is my home. Before I got into real estate, I helped develop the revitalization of the local restaurant and arts scene while also working in architecture. My clients get the benefit of that experience whether it’s questions they have about local neighborhoods or homes they’re thinking of buying. My clients find that I have solid market knowledge, old school values, and a non-pushy yet determined work ethic. Pair that with sharp and resourceful negotiation skills and you’ve got someone who wont give up until my client’s goals are satisfied. Folks remember me and my team for being down to earth while also using the most advanced technology applications available in today’s market. We’re a small group of incredible local lenders, inspectors, stagers, contractors and our own marketing guru. We collaborate in complete tandem to help provide a seamless process for our clients, whether they’re buying or a selling. No question is too small. I love what I do! When I’m not working hard for my clients I keep balanced by spending time cooking and sharing food and music with family and friends, creating in my workshop, or heading out for an outdoor adventure nearby, up the coast or abroad.

I came to real estate relatively late in my career, in 2014. Prior to becoming a realtor, I consulted to small businesses and non-profits on strategic execution. In English, that’s developing a deep understanding of their customers’ experiences, on operational, financial, and marketing strategies, and on structuring their organization and leveraging their resources to achieve their goals. In shorter English, that’s what do we do that people need, what have we got to do it with, who should do it, and will we be successful doing it. I grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, which I tell you because now you can say that you know someone from Delaware. Unless you’re acquainted with Mr. Biden, of course. I moved to the East Bay almost 25 years ago after I graduated from Business School. I came to live in a beautiful place and work in an entrepreneurial, innovative environment that is home to some of the smartest people in the world. I wanted to live, work, and be with people who are constantly thinking about how we can do things better and make things better. Buying our home in Berkeley prompted some major changes in my life. I got very focused on our financial stability and at the same time flourished the sanctuary that our home provides. A few years ago, my husband and I realized a life long dream and bought a home at The Sea Ranch. That too has changed our lives in ways we never expected. In particular, our homes prompted a deep commitment to our communities that translated to meaningful and rewarding community service. Where we live is central to all of us, no matter what the circumstances of our lives are. It is our safety, our respite, and our challenge. It is essential to our family lives and our financial stability – there is no other material thing that is both as fraught and a source of joy, or is as singularly important to us. My own home buying experiences made me realize that buying a home is a catalyst. It creates the infrastructure for our home and family lives. It’s an investment decision. It fosters our involvement in our communities. I wanted to play a supportive and integral role in that process. I also wanted to take my experience in process improvement, change management, and risk analysis to make the buying and selling process easier. I like my clients. No, I love my clients. I am so lucky to work with such great people every day. I love their stories, their ideas, their decision-making processes, their desires. I love it that I help guide critical transitions in their lives and to celebrate the reasons for those transitions. One client got a promotion and is moving closer to work. Another fell in love when she least expected it. Not all stories are happy ones, but they are all deeply moving and important. I am honored to be a part of them. Communication, planning, execution, anticipating and avoiding issues are critical aspects to my success. I also stay calm. Problems arise and emotions can run high but one advantage of having been around the block a few times is that not much fazes me. Great relationships mean that I have many resources to solve problems. Also, I love the quantitative and analytical aspects of the job, which helps navigate a crazy market. When I’m not engaged in helping my clients, I’m out on the trails or at the beach with my dog and my husband. I’m conducting culinary experiments on my friends. I also love to travel, which is good as I have an international family. And I love a good book and a cup of coffee on a quiet morning.

Abio performed beyond expectations to bring our home purchase to a close. This is our 10th home, so our judgement of Abio's superior capabilities includes a lot of past comparisons.

Abio had our best interests at heart and made sure we'd get the best deal we could. In the end, we were able to sell the house for far more than we thought we would. We highly recommend Abio. Their level of service is excellent.

Once I relocated from New Jersey to Oakland, Abio put their heart and soul into helping me find a home.

by Josip M. – Oakland

Abio Properties has been nothing short of amazing in all our business transactions we've had the fortune of working with them as buyers and sellers. Abio and their team work so well together and nothing is missed, their communication flow is as quick as I've seen and their recommendations for how to prep, stage and market a place speak for themselves in the end results. Abio has sold 2 of our families' homes and when my family was a buyer in the market, they were the listing agent for our current house in Walnut Creek. They broke sales records for all properties in the condo development in which we sold in Danville. They performed a miracle in turning around another home that was in dire need of fixing and staging. All of my family has been extremely impressed with the Abio team and their strong desire to do the best for the clients.
